Confrere works in combination with all EHR systems. You don’t need to install any software in order to use Confrere, and you can use it on any computer. Confrere works on all modern browsers, like Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge.
When you sign up with Confrere, we test your network so that you can be certain that your internet connection is strong enough for a high-quality video call.
And there's no need for expensive equipment - regular inexpensive webcams and microphones work great for video appointments.
An ideal setup allows you to see both your EHR system and your patient at the same time. This can be done on one screen, or on two separate screens.
You may think that you need an extra computer screen to do video appointments, but it’s not uncommon to have a screen large enough for both your EHR system and your video appointment beside each other in two separate windows
You can use Confrere even if your EHR system runs through Citrix, a terminal server, or a VPN. The only thing you have to remember is to open Confrere in your Internet browser on your computer, or to open it on another computer, or tablet.
You can also use Confrere in a web browser running on a Citrix terminal server, if the server is configured to handle video through the browser on the local computer.
Confrere works on iPads and other tablets. This means that you have the same setupover video appointments that you have during in-person appointments: your EHR system is open on your computer, but instead of seated nearby in a chair, your patient is “seated” in your tablet. We recommend buying a tablet stand so you can place it next to your computer and easily glance back and forth between screens when needed.
Most EHR systems have a field in which you can specify the type of appointment. This allows you to configure video appointments as its own type of appointment, confirmed by an email or text message sent to patients after they've booked a video appointment. In this text, it’s important that you include the link to your Confrere. Contact your EHR system for detailed instructions on how to configure different types of appointments.
If you have an online form patients use to make appointments, you can recommend that patients use the "Comments" field to request a video appointment if they want one.
